National Native American Heritage Day

Every year, the Friday following Thanksgiving is dedicated to honoring Native Americans and celebrating their rich cultural heritage and significant impact on our nation’s past, present and future. We honor and recognize Native American’s innumerable contributions in the fields of medicine, music, art, agriculture and so much more. 

This Thanksgiving weekend, we encourage you to listen to Native American voices and their heritage that has cultivated and enriched our nation and the world. Below are some examples on how you can observe Native American Heritage Day:

  • Read a story about or by a Native American
  • Watch a documentary about Native American heritage and history
  • Participate in a virtual event honoring Native American culture

Today we celebrate Native American Heritage Day and urge our friends to take the time to recognize the rich cultural heritage and the significant impact of Native American culture on our past, present, and future. We honor their achievements and the numerous contributions Native Americans have made and continue to make to the United States and the world in the fields of agriculture, medicine, music, language, and art. The Utah Attorney General’s Office encourages Utahns to join them in celebrating this great day by educating yourself and others on the great Native American tribes in Utah and the unique history and challenges they have faced both historically and in the present.
